Calling singers, songwriters and artists!

I am a professional singer, songwriter, keyboardist and band leader living in Kings Cross. I’ve led many bands to a high standard for over 10 years, in various pop-oriented styles, and have performed all over London and the UK. But I listen to and love many, many different styles of music!

I can teach you how to understand music better, become a great singer or keyboard player, write great songs, and understand how to shine as an artist, all with YOUR uniqueness in mind. I am a creative at heart and my lessons are full of experimentation, fun and exploration. Music is all about expressing oneself!

We will work towards your personal goals with music, and my programme will be tailor made for you to achieve them. For every lesson I provide an audio recording of the lesson to download from your own Google Drive folder, a post-lesson write up, exercises to work on before our next meeting, and materials such as scales, videos and further reading or practice material should you be extra hungry.

Lessons in my studio:
- Lessons in my studio are on Monday - Thursday, between 10am-7pm (last lesson 6pm). These lessons are 55 minutes long if there is a student immediately following, to allow time for them to come in and set up.
- You can see what slots in my studio are available week on week at jayburgess.setmore.com - then message me on Tutorful with the slot you would like to book and I will add you in.
- Blocks of 5 lessons can be booked for £40/lesson.

Lessons at your home:
- I do private home/studio visits on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays - these are £55/hour. Please message me direct with the time you want.

My studio::
- Studio lessons are conducted in my comfortable home studio here in Kings Cross (on Grays Inn Road - under 10 minutes walk from Kings Cross, Russell Square and Holborn stations).
- I have the facilities to record demos, and plug you into a microphone for stage practice.
- For younger students, parents are welcome to sit in lessons, otherwise there are plenty of cafes/coffee shops etc nearby (Lamb's Conduit Street).

Qualifications
- 1:0 First class BMus Hons degree in Contemporary Popular Music, at the Academy Of Contemporary Music, Guildford
- Lead vocalist, keyboard player, songwriter and arranger for various bands over the years, from pop, indie, rock and r’n’b bands, at industry-standard level
- Performed at many festivals and professional venues across the UK
- Had airplay on national radio stations
- Taught in charity-funded school in Jaipur, Indian, creating a three month extra-curricular music and dance syllabus during the school summer break
- Previous experience working at a major record label.

My style:
- Understand what YOU want to achieve as a singer or pianist, and work towards that. Work in your style, and apply practical exercises relevant to you.
- To create a relaxed, friendly and approachable atmosphere manner so you feel comfortable and expressive! (Note beginners - singing, especially, can be quite scary at first.. but it needn’t be).
- To make sure you understand WHY we doing the exercises we are doing, to see how they are relevant to your progress as a musician.
- Ensure that there are clear exercises to work on in between lessons, and that we are always progressing at a good rate. I am always available to answer any questions.
